This magnificent Chalcocite is from the Dzhezkazgan Mining District in Kazakhstan, a sandstone-hosted copper deposit.  The Chalcocite forms excellent hexagonal platy crystals of metallic black with a steel blue patina and in parts, is almost sapphire-blue.  The largest crystal is 2 cm across and sits vertically behind many equally well-formed smaller crystals.  This is a superb Chalcocite and will make a find addition to either a high-grade systematic collection or a wonderful location piece.
