The Sokolovskoe Iron mine in the Kostanay Region of Kazakhstan is perhaps best known for its fabulous gemmy and elegantly curved Calcite crystals.  This lovely 3 x 2.5 x 2 cm gemmy transparent crystal is perfectly developed, displaying the typical complex habits this location is famous for, with multiple-modified rhombohedral faces, all with gently rounded faces, delicate striations and of a delicious pale lemon-yellow.  The crystal is aesthetically perched on a bed of 2 to 3 mm colourless Calcites crystals covering a pale greenish fine-grained matrix.  A superb Calcite miniature from the Sokolovskoe Iron mine.
