A superb and delightful specimen of the variety of Hematite termed an Iron Rose, from the Ouro Preto mining district in Minas Gerais, Brazil; an area known as the Iron Quadrangle.  The overall rose measures 4.7 x 3.5 cm and by up to 1.6 cm thick.  It is built from metallic black hexagonal platy Hematite crystals in epitaxially-aligned stacks.  Individual stacks are of Tower of Babel appearance (like Babel quartz).  The back of the specimen exhibits natural etching and revealing complex growth patterns within the Hematite structure.  An excellent Iron Rose Hematite from Brazil.
