This great Fluorite miniature, from the historic medieval mining district around Freiberg in Saxony, Germany, is built from waxy grey-green Fluorite crystals with whitened centres, sharp, well-defined edges, and relatively smooth uninterrupted square faces. Scattered over the Fluorite are beautiful sub-mm Sphalerite crystals of bright metallic silver with rare peacock-blue iridescence. One Fluorite crystal is highly distorted from the regular cube to a 1.4 x 0.6 x 0.4 cm rectangular prism. A 7 x 5 mm cluster of lustrous black Sphalerite crystals resides on the base. A Fluorite showing fascinating crystal forms from Freiberg.
