This quite exquisite combination of disk-like plates of biscuit coloured Calcite with Quartz and Pyrite is from the Dal'negorsk (now also spelt Dalnegorsk) mining district in the Far-Eastern Region of Russia. Stubby snow-white Quartz crystals to 7 mm tall completely cover the top surface of a mixed Quartz and Sphalerite matrix. Forming an open ‘V’-shaped pair of butterfly-like wings, the Calcite forms curved flattened plates to 3.9 cm wide of rich biscuit tan, speckled with darker light brown spots. This colour of Calcite at Dal'negorsk is characteristic of a thin surface coating of Siderite. These plates protrude from a bed of milky Quartz crystals which contain a roughly 1 x 1 cm mass of brassy golden Chalcopyrite. This really is a delightful specimen from Dal'negorsk.
