This Quartz crystal from Bächenstock in the Rien Valley of Switzerland has superb optical quality and can be classed as the variety ‘Rock Crystal’.  Ex. matrix, the crystal has been broken-off towards the base of its prism leaving a rough fractured base.  The remaining hexagonal prism and termination are perfect, with the prism faces displaying fine, horizontal striations.  In some lights the quartz has a slight smoky tinge, but in strong light this disappears, leaving a purely colourless crystal.  Fine written text can be read through any two opposing faces, demonstrating the near-perfect transparency.  A stunning Quartz crystal from Bächenstock in central Switzerland.
