This sensational Fluorite from the Shangbao mine in Hunan Province, China is certainly a specimen of two very differing sides. Separated by a thin plate of creamy-white Dolomite crystals, the front display surface is richly encrusted with superbly gemmy colour-zoned cubic Fluorite crystals whereas the back face has an even richer Fluorite coverage, but all of entirely frosted translucent crystals with no indication of zoning. The Shangbao mine is situated to the southeast of China and is a skarn deposit worked for iron, tungsten and tin. On the display surface the Fluorite forms sharp-edged cubic crystals of excellent transparency tending to gemmy, with the most eye-catching nested colour zoning of colourless, lavender, lilac and purple in distinct concentric diminishing framed-cubes. This is a gorgeous Fluorite set off to advantage against Dolomite from Shangbao Mine in the Hengyang Prefecture.
