Beryl var. Aquamarine

ID: CC19614
This splendid pale to deep sky-blue hexagonal crystal of Aquamarine, the blue variety of Beryl, is from Davib Ost Farm 61 in the Erongo Region of Namibia.  The crystal habit is unusual in that a 1.3 cm tall prism sits on top of and extends out from a larger diameter, 2.5 cm tall prism of much deeper colour.  The clarity of the crystals grade from the transparent to gemmy small prism through to an increasingly cloudy and translucent large prism ending with an opaque white zone of Beryl at its base.  The prism faces are vertically striated while the flat pinacoid faces are mirror-smooth with a bright glassy lustre.  This is a lovely small miniature from the Erongo Region of Namibia.
