Quartz var. Citrine

This exceptionally well-priced crystal of Citrine Quartz is wonderful both for its colour and specimen quality, as well as for its fascinating place of origin, the Aldan Shield in the Eastern-Siberia Province of Russia.  The Aldan Shield is a rare exposure of the basement of the Siberian craton, an area of land representing the original accretion of the Earth’s crust in the Archean Eon of the Pre-Cambrian.  The yellow-coloured variety of Quartz termed Citrine is rarely found as good, well-coloured crystals and this is one of exception.  Mounted on a small colourless acrylic base, the 5.0 cm tall crystal is almost entirely of transparent gem quality, smoky-lemon Quartz, with a perfect hexagonal termination and glassy lustre.  The prism faces are mainly mirror smooth, although some faces display fascinating natural etched patterns.  A superb specimen of Citrine from Eastern-Siberia.
