A gorgeous thumbnail of domed lustrous black Cassiterite crystals from the famous tin deposit which spans the border between Germany (Saxony) and the Czech Republic (Bohemia). The locality therefore carries the joint name Cínovec/Zinnwald near to Erzgebirge and Krusné Hory. The Cassiterite crystals are developed up to around 0.9 cm and form a domed cluster of radiating, hedgehog-like crystals with mirror-bright lustrous faces. The centre of the specimen is hollow, suggesting the Cassiterite was deposited over, say, a Quartz crystal which has now been dissolved away leaving an epimorph. Occasional crystal edges are translucent, transmitting the true clove-brown colour of Cassiterite, and on one side sits a little Zinnwaldite Mica. A great thumbnail Cassiterite.
