Parallel hexagonal plates of metallic silver-black Hematite, attached to a little milky Quartz, form a charming thumbnail specimen from Fibbia, a 2,738 m (8,983 ft) high mountain in the Swiss Lepontine Alps overlooking the St. Gotthard Pass. The maximum width of the Hematite crystals is 2.4 cm and the display face forms a slightly concave nest of successively diminishing overlapping blades. A lovely example of this habit of Alpine Hematite mounted vertically on a small square acrylic base.
