Kara-Oba is a greisen-hosted tungsten-molybdenum deposit in the Betpakdala Desert of Kazakhstan. A greisen is a granitic body which has been subjected to the passage of hot gaseous or water-rich phases escaping from the granite melt, so creating an altered zone suitable for mineral deposition. Kara-Oba produces an impressive suite of differently coloured Fluorite in a range of habits. This attractive small miniature of three light peppermint-green Fluorite crystals stacked one on top of the other, diminishing in size towards the base, and mounted on a square, colourless acrylic stand. The top, largest cube, measures 1.8 x 1.7 x 1.2 cm and all three have cloudy interiors, misted and frosted by swirls and intersecting planes of Fluorite. A fine Fluorite cluster from Kara-Oba and of unusual and attractive colour.
