An eye-catching and rather unusual small miniature of brightly shimmering Calcite crystals overlaying gemmy, colourless Quartz, made complete with a single, highly lustrous Scheelite crystal. The Quartz and Calcite cover a mixed sulphide matrix of Pyrite, Chalcopyrite and Bornite. From Baia Sprie in Romania, the glassy, rather acicular Quartz crystals are developed to 2 cm long, most of which are encrusted in rosettes of milky white Calcite. The pyramidal Scheelite crystal is an uncommon smoky-black and displays occasional internal flashes of metallic blue. Under SWUV the Scheelite fluoresces a very ethereal sapphire blue, but with the emphasis on very ethereal. Under LWUV it is non-fluorescent. A terrific miniature from Baia Sprie.
