This bi-coloured cranberry red and rhubarb green Tourmaline is from the classic gem state of Minas Gerais, Brazil.  Unfortunately no specific mine or more detailed locality accompanies this miniature specimen.  Often in Tourmaline crystals one colour gradually morphs into another, but this this specimen is definitely binary with a razor-sharp cut-off between red and green!  The cranberry lower half is translucent while the green is certainly semi-transparent and verging on transparent.  The flattened prism faces are vertically striated giving a silky texture and lustre to the specimen.  The green Tourmaline sub-divides into individual crystals as it approaches the apex, eventually forming at least ten individual triangular terminations of diminishing size.  A lovely rhubarb-coloured Tourmaline from Minas Gerais.
