Fluorite with Calcite

ID: CC20017
A stunning and remarkable Fluorite with Calcite from the classic Elmwood mine at Carthage in Smith County, Tennessee, USA.  The combination of a 4 cm tall, colourless to golden transparent Calcite scalenohedral crystal attached to the rectangular face of a mauve tinted Fluorite crystal is beautiful in itself. However, emerging form the base of the same Fluorite crystal is a delicately stepped, steep sided scalenohedral mauve Fluorite crystal, which looks most likely to be a perfect pseudomorph after Calcite.  Similar, but not as well defined examples, appear on Mindat and are described as naturally etched Fluorite from Elmwood.  However, this superbly defined habit in this particular specimen certainly suggests a pseudomorph.   A very unusual, rare and fascinating specimen.
