This gorgeous leaf green and cranberry red Tourmaline crystal is from the Cruzeiro mine in the São José da Safira district of Minas Gerais, Brazil, one of the world’s premier sources for gem and specimen grade material.  This ex. matrix prism is transparent almost throughout and between the speckled internal flaws and wisps, the quality is close to gemmy.  Standing 3.8 cm tall on a bevelled clear acrylic base, the prism is a convexly-curved equilateral triangle in cross section.  The prism is principally of spring leaf green grading to bluish green towards the termination.  A mid-cranberry red zone occupies the lower middle of the prism and its flat termination is of the same colour, yet only 0.5 mm thick.  The pinacoid is frosted with a fine granular texture and semi-matt lustre.
