This lovely specimen is a superb example of what is sometime termed an “inverted snow cone” Fluorite from the classic Elmwood mine at Carthage, Tennessee, USA. A joined pair of elongated Fluorite crystals give a scalenohedral-like appearance but are actually partially dissolved Fluorite crystals leaving behind one cone-shaped corner. Attached to a little glassy white Baryte, the Fluorite cones appear deep mauve-blue, but in transmitted light become a wonder, highly translucent and vibrant lavender with subtle reddish-mauve patches. These structures are an exceedingly rare habit of Fluorite and this could not be a better, more perfect or beautiful example.
