ID: CC20053
A large single off-white Calcite crystal to 3.8 cm on a greenish-grey skarn matrix from the Medenec copper mine at Klášterec nad Ohrí, in the Krušné Hory mountains of the Czech Republic.  This mine was started in the 16th century and remained in production until 1860.  The Calcite appears translucent light grey, but this is mainly masked by an outer layer of opaque snow-white Calcite.  Certain edges display the underlying grey Calcite, making a Mercedes-style three-pointed star.  The matrix is sparsely coated with similar smaller crystals ranging from 0.3 to 1 cm and a 2 x 1 cm area of sub-mm clear stubby Quartz crystals.
