A real eye-catcher of a specimen from Horní Slavkov in the Karlovy Vary Region of the Czech Republic. A superb 12.7 cm long tapered Quartz crystal, with three adjacent prism faces encrusted with deep purple Fluorite, brassy Chalcopyrite, Zinnwaldite mica, small Quartz crystals and salmon-buff, 0.25 mm diameter globular crystals of (what is labelled) Scheelite. The primary Quartz crystal is translucent milky-grey-white with glassy grey sections, forming striated horizontal bands perpendicular to the long axis. What is previously described as Scheelite on the original label is certainly very different in habit and colour to that I am familiar with and it does not fluoresce. However, no matter what this minor species is, the complete specimen remains a very fine and aesthetic example.
