A real eye-catcher of a specimen from Horní Slavkov in the Karlovy Vary Region of the Czech Republic. A superb 12.7 cm long tapered Quartz crystal has three adjacent prism faces encrusted with deep purple Fluorite, brassy Chalcopyrite, "Zinnwaldite" mica, small Quartz crystals and salmon-buff, 0.25 mm diameter globular crystals of what is labelled Scheelite. The primary Quartz crystal is translucent milky-grey-white with glassy grey sections, forming striated horizontal bands perpendicular to the long axis. What is described as Scheelite on the original label is certainly very different in habit and colour to that I am familiar with and it does not fluoresce. However, no matter what this species is, the specimen remains a very fine and aesthetic example.
