Helvine, a rare beryllium manganese silicate, forms sharp buttery lemon yellow tetrahedral crystals richly lining vugs in a mid to light grey Quartz-rich matrix. This small cabinet specimen is from Helvine’s type locality at St. Richard mine (formerly Friedefürst mine) at Breitenbrunn in Saxony, Germany. The Helvine crystals average between 1 and 2 mm on edge but can attain 3 to 4 mm. They are opaque with a matt to satin lustre of a uniform, unvarying buttery lemon curd. A hand-written label is glued to the specimen which is clearly of considerable age.
