This is one of those large thumbnails which arrests any passing glance! Dark emerald-green Malachite crystals to 2 mm form two continuous strings draped over a ruby-red crystal of Cobaltoan Dolomite. The combination of colours is gorgeous. This lovely specimen is from the Kakanda deposit in the Kambove District of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The Malachite forms tiny prismatic crystals with tufted terminations, the latter a much lighter emerald-green and these link to create piled-up druses overgrowing the Dolomite. A delightful combination specimen and so characteristic of the mines in this region of Africa.
