Rich druses of vibrant bright yellowish lime-green and deeper siskin-green Pyromorphite largely cover a gnarled, vuggy limonitic matrix; a classic specimen from the Wanlockhead mining area in Dumfriesshire (now Dumfries and Galloway), Scotland. The original county name, and that at the time of mining, was Dumfriesshire. The Pyromorphite forms as 3 to 4 mm diameter botryoidal mounds of micro-acicular crystals. This sought after colour and habit of Pyromorphite from Wanlockhead is now very rarely encountered. This specimen comes with a nice old printed and typed label, ex. Hugh G. Ford of Wall Street, New York.
