Lead-grey crystals of the cobalt arsenide Skutterudite nestle in parts of a pointed ridge formed by massive mid to light grey Skutterudite.  This contains tabular blocky plates of what is probably Baryte.  From Bieber, close to the town of Gelnhausen in Spessart, Germany, the Skutterudite forms pyramidal crystals to 1 cm on edge, although none are fully developed due to their intergrown nature.  Although of a fairly uniform lead-grey when examined closely, the Skutterudite does take on a patchy delicate pink patina from a short distance, a characteristic of cobalt-bearing minerals.  Earthy dustings of a powdery pale green mineral are scattered over the specimen in certain areas, a likely nickel species which is known to associate with Skutterudite.

Ex. the Mineral Collection of Archduke Stephan Franz Viktor of Hungary (1817 to 1867), with a historic Archduke (Erzherzog) Stephan label incorporating his coat of arms.  This small label measures 8.5 x 4.7 cm; it is complete (untrimmed) and is numbered 444/4.  On this specimen there are no catalogue number or Carl Rumpff labels.  The Archduke label is in good condition; it is lightly foxed and has been folded once, leaving a vertical crease down the centre.  A white card label accompanies the specimen written with just the species and locality.  The specimen comes with one of the unique thick green card boxes which the Archduke had specifically made to house the specimens.
