Citrus limey-apple-green crystals of Titanite are scattered across the surface of a complex, fine-granular matrix; probably a skarn.  From Höllgraben near to Salzburg in Austria, this locality comprises of numerous mineralised veins which have been exposed by the valley and stream.  Greenschists juxtaposed against limestones have produced carbonatite rocks and low temperature skarns.  The Titanite crystals range from 1 to 8 mm, the smaller crystals being the more perfect.  The granular matrix is rich in Chlorite and a pervasive granular lime-green mineral throughout the matrix is presumed to be anhedral Titanite.

Ex. the Mineral Collection of Archduke Stephan Franz Viktor of Hungary (1817 to 1867), with a historic Archduke (Erzherzog) Stephan label incorporating his coat of arms.  This large label measures 9.8 x 8.1 cm; it is complete (untrimmed) and is numbered 526/7.  This catalogue number is also glued to the specimen’s base, but there is no attached  Carl Rumpff label.  This large Archduke label is in reasonably good condition, with minor foxing and creases; one vertical and one horizontal.  The specimen comes with one of the unique thick green card boxes which the Archduke had specifically made to house the specimens.
