Double terminated stubby Calcite prisms of between 0.2 and 1.4 cm long by 0.9 cm across flats, form a jumbled aggregate of well developed crystals, cemented together by granular Calcite grains and smaller Calcite crystals. This specimen, from the St. Andreasberg mining district in Lower Saxony, Germany, features a spectrum of crystal clarity, from semi-transparent to opaque. Many of the Calcite crystals have translucent light grey prisms with snow-white opaque pinacoid terminations. A most attractive old-time specimen from Saxony.
Ex. the Mineral Collection of Archduke Stephan Franz Viktor of Hungary (1817 to 1867), but does not have the Archduke (Erzherzog) Stephan label. A small Carl Rumpff label, dated 1889 is glued to the specimen’s base.
