Waxy, slightly glassy lemon-fawn crystals of Cerussite richly line the vuggy surface of a gossan matrix composed of recemented brecciated shale, Quartz and Limonite.  From the Harz region in Lower Saxony, Germany, the Cerussite forms crystals to about 6 mm long, all of which lie in the vugs parallel to the outer surface.  In cross section the crystals appear to form stellate-reticulated cross-sections, although appear as parallel elongated plates when viewed sideways-on.

Ex. the Mineral Collection of Archduke Stephan Franz Viktor of Hungary (1817 to 1867), with a historic Archduke (Erzherzog) Stephan label incorporating his coat of arms.  This label measures 5.3 x 3.2 cm and has been very heavily trimmed on all four sides.  All the ornate borders are completely lost and all of the crown in the coat of arms is missing.  Although much of the writing is missing, the label retains the catalogue number 105/18.  A small label bearing this same number is glued to the base of the specimen together with a Carl Rumpff label, dated 1889.  It is understood these labels were trimmed by curators at the Museum of Natural History of the Humboldt University in Berlin, to fit within their specimen boxes, after being bequeathed by Carl Rumpff’s widow in late 1889.  The specimen comes with one of the unique thick green card boxes which the Archduke had specifically made to house the specimens.
