A truly historic specimen of Uvarovite garnet from the Biserskoye Chrome Deposit in the Urals Region of Russia, a locality very rarely seen nowadays, but available during Archduke Stephan’s lifetime.  The Uvarovite crystals range from 1 to 4 mm and are a most attractive, chrome-emerald-green and richly coat a deep tan-mottled mid-grey Chromite matrix.  Many of the Uvarovite crystals are damaged, but this specimen’s true value lies in its very rare historic location and provenance.

Ex. the Mineral Collection of Archduke Stephan Franz Viktor of Hungary (1817 to 1867), but does not have the Archduke (Erzherzog) Stephan label.  A small Carl Rumpff label, dated 1889 is glued to the specimen’s base.  An Archduke Stephan catalogue number is attached to the base, 321/1.
