Labelled in the Archduke and Rumpff collections as Goethite, this small miniature has an area of bronze-carmine-red Lepidocrocite crystals coating one end of a plate of black Goethite.  Lepidocrocite is dimorphous with Goethite.  The Lepidocrocite forms sub to 1 mm stellate crystal groups which cluster to form small rosettes.  An interesting specimen from Siegen in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.

Ex. the Mineral Collection of Archduke Stephan Franz Viktor of Hungary (1817 to 1867), but does not have the Archduke (Erzherzog) Stephan label.  A small Carl Rumpff label, dated 1889 is glued to the specimen’s base.  The specimen comes with one of the unique thick green card boxes which the Archduke had specifically made to house the specimens.  This specimen is accompanied with a 7.3 x 5.4 cm thick card handwritten “Coll. C. Rumpff, 1889” label.
