A rich miniature of almost solid crystallised Olivenite with nicely terminated acicular Quartz crystals scattered over the top.  This old-time specimen is from Gwennap, a parish west of Redruth in Cornwall.  The specimen is from one of the world famous mines in the area that was later to become known as St. Day.  Deep to mid olive-green Olivenite crystals of about 1 mm across make-up almost the whole specimen and the Quartz crystals, all to about 7 mm long are typical of this classic locality.

Ex. the Mineral Collection of Archduke Stephan Franz Viktor of Hungary (1817 to 1867), with a historic Archduke (Erzherzog) Stephan label incorporating his coat of arms.  This label measures 7.4 x 4.1 cm and has been trimmed across the top and right, so losing these two ornate borders, but does still retain the complete coat of arms and the catalogue number 130/3.  A small label bearing this same number is glued to the base of the specimen together with a Carl Rumpff label, dated 1889.  It is understood these labels were trimmed by curators at the Museum of Natural History of the Humboldt University in Berlin, to fit within their specimen boxes, after being bequeathed by Carl Rumpff’s widow in late 1889.  The specimen comes with one of the unique thick green card boxes which the Archduke had specifically made to house the specimens.  This specimen is accompanied with a small old label dated 1897.
