A fairly substantial block of vuggy, mid-grey to chocolate brown Siderite invested with rich druses of acicular brown Pyromorphite from the Pfingstwiese mine, Bad Ems in the Lahn Valley, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany.  This mine closed in 1945, so had been producing for many years considering this specimen was in the possession of Archduke Stephan.  The Pyromorphite crystals range from needle-like acicular mm-sized crystals to longer, barrel shaped crystals of up to 7 mm long.

Ex. the Mineral Collection of Archduke Stephan Franz Viktor of Hungary (1817 to 1867), with a historic Archduke (Erzherzog) Stephan label incorporating his coat of arms.  This label measures 8.6 x 4.9 cm; it is complete (untrimmed) and is numbered 99/144, with this same number glued to the specimen’s base.  A Carl Rumpff label, dated 1889 is glued to one side of the specimen.  This smaller sized Archduke label is in near perfect condition, with just a little light foxing.  The specimen comes with one of the unique thick green card boxes which the Archduke had specifically made to house the specimens.  Two other very old labels come with this specimen, but are difficult to read.
