An excellent specimen of bright limey-lemon-yellow dendritic Pyromorphite in a massive Goethite matrix from Dernbach, Neuwied in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany.  The Pyromorphite forms feather-like plumes within the intensely dark brown matrix.  Once split open the Pyromorphite is revealed as two-dimensional dendritic fronds.  A classic habit of Pyromorphite from Dernbach.

Ex. the Mineral Collection of Archduke Stephan Franz Viktor of Hungary (1817 to 1867), with a historic Archduke (Erzherzog) Stephan label incorporating his coat of arms.  This label measures 8.5 x 6.7 cm and has been heavily trimmed, so completely losing all of its ornate borders, but does still retain the complete coat of arms and the catalogue number 109/102.  A small label bearing this same number is glued to the top of the specimen together with a Carl Rumpff label, dated 1889.  It is understood these labels were trimmed by curators at the Museum of Natural History of the Humboldt University in Berlin, to fit within their specimen boxes, after being bequeathed by Carl Rumpff’s widow in late 1889.  The specimen comes with one of the unique thick green card boxes which the Archduke had specifically made to house the specimens.  This specimen is accompanied with a white card label from the Mineralogical Museum of the Humboldt University of Berlin.
