Perhaps the most iconic alpine mineral is pink Fluorite, a colour very rarely found around the world.  This gorgeous example is from Zinggenstöcke in the Grimsel area, about 75 km SE of Bern in Switzerland.  The Fluorite forms three octahedral crystals, two of which are intergrown.  The largest measures approximately 2.5 x 2.5 x 2.0 cm and all are of a slightly burnt candy-pink, translucent and with frosted faces.  None of the octahedral forms are complete as they emerge from a glassy Quartz matrix together with part of a terminated Quartz crystal, this partly coated and included with olive-green chlorite.  The Fluorite crystals are heavily crazed internally and look splendid perched on top of the greenish Quartz.
