Stromeyerite on Calcite

ID: CC20418
Stromeyerite is a rare silver-copper sulphide, not often encountered either in ore deposits or mineral collections.  Long acicular sooty dark grey crystals are developed to around 8 mm, richly coating a 2 x 1 cm area of underlying Calcite.  Other smaller areas and individual crystals of Stromeyerite do occur.  From the Příbram mining district in the Czech Republic, the composite stacked Calcite crystals grade upwards from pale salmon-pink to burnt tangerine-orange.  A fine and aesthetic specimen of Stromeyerite on Calcite.
