Over the last 40 years I have seen countless Smithsonite specimens from Tsumeb, but this stands out as something quite different and a rare beauty.  Micro-crystals of pale sage green and orange tinted Quartz cover a dense matrix of mid-grey massive mixed quartz/carbonate.  The Smithsonite forms dumbbell-shaped double terminated wheatsheaf bundles of crystals over the crystallised Quartz surface.  On one side the Smithsonite covers the matrix completely over an area of roughly 8 x 3 cm and on the opposite face, the wheatsheaf pairs are attractively scattered over the Quartz.  In my opinion the latter would be the display face.  The contrast between the Smithsonite and Quartz is beautiful, making this a most desirable small cabinet specimen.
