Fluorite with Dolomite

ID: CC20430
This description can only begin with “Wow!”.  This stunningly beautiful intensely rich blackberry to Royal purple Fluorite is from one of North America’s most famous and classic mines, that of Elmwood at Carthage in Smith County, Tennessee.  This specimen is magnificent and stunning and even more so when back-lit.  It is formed, essentially from tow interpenetrant cubes, but of greatly differing sizes; one 7.4 x 5.7 x 4.7 cm and one 4.0 x 4.0 x 2.0 cm. The faces, edges and corners are all perfect.  All edges are precise and sharp, with the faces all covered in mm-scale square, part-cubic growth patterns in low relief.  The colour, as described, is stunning, and once lit from behind or above, the crystals emit a patchwork of rich blackberry, damson, plumb-purples with deep mauve and cranberry hues.  Just framing the crystals along one edge are brightly lustrous white Dolomite crystals of 2 to 3 mm.  The Fluorite is non-fluorescent.  A magnificent museum-grade specimen.
