The Riemvasmaak Fluorite occurrences near the town of Kakamas in the Northern Cape Province of South Africa have in recent years become a favourite in the collector market, not surprising given their unique colour, octahedral habit and size.  This ex-matrix miniature is a complete crystal despite its truncated appearance.  The upper half of the octagonal prism has edges of 4.5 to 5 cm long while the lower half is abruptly terminated with a flat yet naturally crystallised base.  When displayed upright it looks like the base is cleaved, but this is not the case.  The Fluorite is semi-transparent to mainly translucent and of a fabulous nickel lime green.  The apex of the four-sided pyramidal termination has three tiny aligned sawtooth terminations side-by-side.  A thing of beauty!
