ID: CC20499
Rich velvet-like areas of crushed strawberry-red acicular Cuprite, variety Chalcotrichite, coat the top surface of a fine granular-textured dark chocolate-brown iron-rich matrix.  This fine specimen is from Ray mine on Scott Mountain in Pinal County, one of Arizona’s many famous and historic mines.  Ray mine worked a polymetallic orebody containing copper, gold, silver, zinc, lead and molybdenum.  The largest patch of Chalcotrichite covers a roughly 3 x 2 cm area; its striking colour and silky lustre contrasting wonderfully against the dark matrix.
