This strikingly beautiful Mimetite dates from the famous discovery made in 1996 from the, then abandoned, lead-tin Guatomo mine at Tham Thalu in Yala Province, Thailand.  These now famous specimens of Mimetite were recovered over a two-year period and more recently featured as a major article in the Mineralogical Record.  In this specimen a bright orange-ochre limonite matrix is heavily encrusted with butterscotch-lemon Mimetite crystals up to 7 mm across, forming highly lustrous hexagonal prisms and other more complex crystalline structures.  The Mimetite is translucent grading to occasionally gemmy.  A most impressive example of vibrantly coloured Mimetite from this historic modern find.
