Hingston Down is an operating granite quarry close to Calstock in north Cornwall and occasionally encounters mineralised veins.  The granite pluton which it exploits is one of the smaller and less well-known of the Cornubian batholith, which extends from Dartmoor to the Isles of Scilly.  This beautifully coloured small miniature Fluorite grades from a highly translucent aquamarine base of massive fluorite to a crystallised top surface of stepped cubic crystals of translucent to semi-transparent sky-blue.  A few sub-mm siderite crystals are perched at on side of this choice Hingston specimen.
