Fluorite on Quartz

ID: CC20594
A fabulous swath of superbly colour-zoned gemmy purple Fluorite crystals forms a tumbling ribbon across a matrix of pure snow-white opaque stubby Quartz crystals.  The Fluorite forms cubic crystals of typically 0.7 to 1 cm on edge, everyone of which contains alternating purple and lavender nested zones of earlier generation phantom crystals.  Occasional Fluorite crystals contain near-surface brassy inclusions, quite often hexagonal and embedded parallel to the crystal’s surface.  These are likely to be micro-crystals of Pyrrhotite.  The Fluorite has a bright glassy lustre which contrasts well against the Quartz’s silky lustre.  This beautiful small cabinet specimen is from the Yaogangxian mine in Yizhang County, China, which works a tin-tungsten deposit.  On the back and base are small areas of bladed black Ferberite crystals.  A terrific specimen of zoned Fluorite on Quartz from Hunan Province, China.
