Outstandingly well-defined colour zoned Fluorite crystals are richly strewn along one edge and half the top surface of terminated stubby translucent milky Quartz crystals which form the matrix. At one end the Quartz is richly pervaded with metallic black bladed Ferberite crystals, often with a surface coating of a dark chocolate-brown alteration product. From the Yaogangxian mine in Hunan Province, China, the Fluorite forms cubic crystals up to 1.2 cm on edge, although are typically 8 to 10 mm. Closely examined, they reveal multiple nested colour zones, but at the macro-level (i.e. normal viewing distance), they appear to be very simply colour-zoned with a dark purple outer rim and one inner phantom rim. An excellently zoned Fluorite with Quartz and Ferberite from the Yaogangxian mine.
