A gorgeous miniature group of deep chrome sea-green Fluorite crystals from the enigmatic Fairy Holes Pocket at Lady Annabella mine.  This Fluorite is very distinctive because of its unorthodox colour, complex zoning and mind-blowing fluorescence.  Cubic Fluorite crystals of typically 7 mm wide cover the iron-rich banded matrix and on top of these sit three major interpenetrant twins, the largest forming a superb L-shaped crystal of over 2 cm square.  It is a well-accepted rule that crystals (of any mineral species) tend to form much larger crystals when twinned, an observation commonly seen throughout Weardale.  Another observation, certainly in the Fairy Holes Pocket, is that the large twins fluoresce with a fierce intensity of deep inky Royal purple in direct daylight (even on a very dull and rainy Somerset day!) whereas the small crystals are non-fluorescent.  A real beauty!
