Fluorite

ID: CC20627
This beautiful small cabinet specimen from The Bull Vein at Lady Annabella mine has an iron-rich matrix of altered limestone completely covered with lemon-yellow Fluorite crystals, almost all of elongated cubic habit.  The crystals are intergrown rather than twinned, but one large interpenetrant twin stands proudly just off-centre.  This measures between 2 and 3 cm overall and is magnificently transparent and gemmy with razor-sharp edges and glassy surfaces.  It is only when studied closer that this twin, together with some of the larger single crystals, exhibit beautiful, yet subtle, delicate lavender colour-zoning at their edges.  The Fluorite does not fluoresce in daylight but does intensify in colour.
