Elbaite Tourmaline

ID: CC20645
The granite pegmatite at Coronel Murta, Brazil, is worked from many gem producing mines and is especially well known for its superb multi-coloured Elbaite Tourmaline crystals.  This captivating, ex-matrix small miniature measures 3.7 x 1.2 x 1.0 cm and is semi-transparent grading from a flesh-pink base through wispy bluish green to a cerise pink termination.  The termination is a near-perfect shallow pyramid with several off-set faces, just one of which shows a little bruising in the form of a small chip.  The prism is hexagonal in cross section, has vertical, deeply striated faces and a bright glassy lustre.  This is a lovely example of Elbaite Tourmaline from this amazing locality in Brazil.
