Fluorite on Calcite

Minerals are frequently compared to food and for this specimen it is great big fat juicy blackberry jellies!  I am tempted to pluck one off and let it melt in my mouth!  But enough snacking and down to serious mineral business.  Nine major, well-formed cubic Fluorite crystals form a ribbon-like chain over a milky-white Calcite matrix, itself encrusted with micro-Roman sword crystals of Gypsum and occasional curved saddles of pearly-white Dolomite.  The Fluorite crystals range from 1.2 cm to 2.7 cm on edge and are, in general, transparent to semi-transparent in strong geometric nested phantoms of lavender, lilac, and deep royal purple.  All crystals have a deep purple outlined framework, followed by a light lavender sub-surface zone, then an intensely zoned deep lilac-purple central cubic phantom.  Their corners and edges are sharp and beautifully defined, and all faces roughly textured by prominent cubic and sub-octahedral growth patterns.  As stated, the crystals really do look like squashable cubes of jelly and consequently make it a mouth-watering delight for display.  Have the napkins at the ready to mop away those drools!
