Elbaite (Tourmaline)

ID: CC20682
This single, 3.8 cm tall Elbaite Tourmaline is a superb and delightful spectrum of reds and pinks along its length, with many sections gemmy with excellent optical clarity. It is from the recently discovered pocket of gem Tourmaline at Coronel Murta in Minas Gerais, Brazil. This charming miniature is mounted vertically on a small, square acrylic base which allows light to enter the prism from every direction, so enhancing the brightness and brilliance of the crystal’s colours. It must be pointed out that this crystal has had one repair made, but this remains totally invisible unless viewed under ultra-violet light. Professional repairs are commonly necessary, even to the best of Tourmaline crystals, because they are highly susceptible to in-situ breakage through tectonic events such as earthquakes. This crystal grades from pink-tinged colourless Elbaite at the base through light candy-pink, cerise, orange-red, and finally a rich cherry termination. The termination is perfect and pyramidal. Just gorgeous!
