This gorgeous pink Elbaite Tourmaline is from a large pocket recently discovered in the Coronel Murta gem mining district of Minas Gerais in Brazil. This well terminated crystal measures 4.9 cm tall and is mounted vertically on a small square clear acrylic base. It must be pointed out this specimen has three repairs (noted on its label), a process necessary due to repeated tectonic disturbance of the pocket and hence resultant natural breakages of the brittle Tourmaline crystals while in-situ. The repairs have been made by a mineralogical company specialising in specimen cleaning a documented repair. When scrutinising the specimen under magnification, the repairs remain difficult, if impossible, to detect. The prism is a mix of transparent and semi-translucent bubble gum-pink grading to a lighter coral-pink below the termination and finishing with a 2 mm bright cerise-pink cap. A few pale lavender Lepidolite mica crystals coat two prism faces adjacent to its base and from which a small 6 mm pink Elbaite crystal branches out. A charming Elbaite Tourmaline from Coronel Murta, Brazil.
