Elbaite (Tourmaline)

ID: CC20694
This Elbaite Tourmaline crystal is 5.7 cm tall and stands mounted to a small square, colourless acrylic base. From the recent discovery of a large pocket of pink gem Tourmalines at Coronel Murta in Minas Gerais, Brazil, this gorgeous single crystal has quite deeply striated prism faces, all with a glassy lustre and is capped with a flat pinacoid termination with a greasy lustre. In cross section, half the crystal shows two complete and two-part faces of a hexagonal prism, with remaining side composed of three sets of sawtooth-style re-entrant faces. The colour grades from cerise to coral-pink, becoming almost colourless over the final 1 cm, then terminating in vivid cerise. A superb Elbaite Tourmaline with no repairs required.
