Elbaite (Tourmaline) with Quartz

ID: CC20700
This is a beautiful and striking Elbaite Tourmaline, forming a fanned array of terminated sugar candy-pink crystals to 4.8 cm tall and dusted with double terminated milky-white Quartz crystals.  This arresting specimen is from a recently discovered gem Tourmaline pocket found in the mining district of Coronel Murta in Minas Gerais, Brazil, more associated with single crystals than arrays like this.  To count individual crystal is difficult as they merge into each other, but a quick count along the top quickly adds up to at least 26 individual terminations, all of which are undamaged, smooth-flat pinacoids with a bright glassy lustre.  All prism faces are highly lustrous also, with the prisms grading form translucent creamy sugar candy-pink to more translucent terminations of an intense rose-pink with a gemmy quality.  The coverage of Quartz crystals is much denser on the back, with the largest crystal measuring 1.7 cm, although this is by far the largest.  A show-stopping Elbaite and Quartz miniature of quite exquisite aesthetics from Coronel Murta, Brazil.  It’s gorgeous!
